Biological Weapon Information

What are Biological Weapons?

Biological weapon is to use the biological toxins extracted from organisms aimed to kill human enemies.

Classes of Chemical Weapons

Biological weapons have three main types:

1. Microorganisms. It infects and then grow in the target host to produce a disease that kills the target host.

2. Biologically Derived Bioactive Substances (BDBS). It produces by metabolism infect the target host and interfere with normal activities by impact such as hormones.

3. Artificially Designed Biological-Mimicking Substances. It could mimic the actions of biologics.

Advantages of Biological Weapons

1. It could cause the harm as desired, since it is the reproduction of toxins.

2. Biological toxin is the one of the most destructive toxic agents.

3. Most bio weapons are easily produced and cheap to grow.

4. Huge quantity of bio weapon could be produced in a few days in small region.

Challenges of Biological Weapons

1. It is difficult to protect the workers in any phase including production, transportation and delivery.

2. It is difficult to control the quality and containment during cultivation of toxins.

3. The effectively of delivery is low since most biological materials break down under sun light or dry condition.

4. It is hard to survival without proper storage conditions.

Facts

The biological weapon has a funny name ‘the poor man’s atomic bomb’. It has similar destruction potential but it is far cheaper. The manufacturing of biological weapon is simple once the method is known. Thus it could be widely spread than atomic bomb. It is very dangerous if terrorists use it as their attack. As a new threat, what is the future orientation for biological weapon?

By overview the history, the power of code is not sufficient to prevent the misuse of biological weapon. ‘Pious words will not solve the problem’. Engineers and scientists should advance the knowledge and apply the knowledge to contribute health to human. They should limit the misuse of biological agents and relevant knowledge.  The ethical implications of biological weapon use and development have been discussed.
